Finish Your Marriage License With the County Clerk

You can start a Hidalgo County marriage license online. Both people still have to appear at the County Clerk office within three days. If they do not, the application drops out and you start again.

Bring original or certified proof of identity. Accepted IDs include a driver license, state ID, passport, military ID, birth certificate, citizenship paper, resident alien card, border crossing card, or matricula consular. Both applicants also need Social Security numbers if they have them.

The timing can trip up a wedding plan. The 72-hour wait starts when the clerk issues the license, not when you submit online. A recent divorce can add another wait. Count from the office visit, not the couch.
