Filing a DBA in Cameron County Ends at the County Clerk's Counter

If a sole proprietor or partnership uses a business name instead of the owner's legal name, Texas calls it an assumed name, or DBA. In Cameron County, that filing is recorded with the County Clerk at the Brownsville, San Benito, or Harlingen offices.

You start on the county site by completing the assumed-name application. Then you go to a clerk office in person to finish it. The same counter handles abandonment if you close the name later.

A DBA is a public name record, not a license. Food, health, sales-tax, alcohol, professional, and city rules can still apply.
