In Collin County, a few miles from both McKinney and Plano, Lucas is a low-density residential city on the northern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The terrain is rolling blackland prairie, and Lavon Lake lies to the east. The community has retained a rural, large-lot character even as suburban development has expanded across the county around it.
