White Rock Lake Gives Dallas an Urban Lake with Trails and Wildlife
White Rock Lake sits about five miles northeast of downtown in East Dallas. The 1,015-acre city lake is wrapped by a 9.3-mile trail and has piers, boat ramps, kayak access, and the Bath House Cultural Center on the east shore.
On a clear weekend, the loop fills with walkers, cyclists, rowers, and birders. Quieter coves draw people who just want to watch herons work the shallows.
The lake began as city water infrastructure, a municipal reservoir that later became parkland. Today it anchors a whole side of Dallas: trail, neighborhoods, water, and park space all tied to one place.
