Cedar Hill lies in southwestern Dallas County, about 11 miles south of Grand Prairie, on the rolling terrain of the Dallas metropolitan area. The city sits along the Cedar Hill escarpment above Joe Pool Lake, and Cedar Hill State Park occupies land on the lake's shore within the area.
