Getting Married in Waco? Plan Around the 72-Hour Waiting Period
The marriage license comes from the McLennan County Clerk. That same office keeps deeds, liens, birth and death records, and even cattle brands. Both people usually appear together with photo ID. The license is good anywhere in Texas.
The detail couples miss is the 72-hour wait. Texas law makes you wait three full days after the license is issued before the ceremony. The license also expires if it is not used within 90 days. Active-duty military and couples who finish an approved premarital course may qualify for a waiver.
Years later, a certified copy for a name change, passport, or Social Security record also comes from the County Clerk.
