Trinity Forest Stories & local character

The Great Trinity Forest Gateway Opens a Different Side of Dallas

South of downtown, the Trinity River corridor turns greener and lower than the skyline suggests. Great Trinity Forest Gateway and Horse Trail is a 250-acre metropolitan park at 2161 Dowdy Ferry Road.

The park has trails, picnic areas, fishing, a pier, lake or pond access, a canoe launch, and a boat ramp. City forest planning places this landscape where the Cross Timbers and Blackland Prairie meet, with the heaviest tree cover along waterways.

It is a good window into the wilder edge of Dallas County. Here the Trinity is not only a floodway or map line; it is a place to walk, paddle, or fish.
