Getting a Disabled Parking Placard in Nacogdoches County

The placard that lets you use accessible parking spaces comes from the county tax assessor-collector's office at 101 W. Main St., Suite 100, in Nacogdoches, the same downtown counter that handles registration and titles. The application is Form VTR-214, and the disability section has to be filled in and signed by your doctor or health-care provider before you turn it in.

Color matters. A red placard covers a temporary disability and expires within six months. A blue placard is for a permanent disability and is good for four years. When it's time to renew a blue placard, you catch a break: the doctor doesn't have to sign off again. You complete the first page of a fresh application and send it in with a copy of your original.

One rule worth saying plainly: the placard is tied to the person, not the car. It's only valid when the individual with the disability is the one parking or being driven there. Lend it to a relative for an errand and it's being misused. Questions on a specific case go to the office at 936-560-7767.
