Garrison, Texas

In the deep Piney Woods of Nacogdoches County, Garrison sits along the U.S. 59 corridor about 49 miles southeast of Longview, surrounded by dense East Texas pine and hardwood forest. The town developed as a railroad and sawmill community, and the surrounding county was part of the early-1900s East Texas experiment in growing cigar-leaf tobacco before cotton and timber reasserted themselves. Lumber and farming have long shaped the local economy.
