Texas City, Texas

Texas City lies on the mainland shore of Galveston Bay along the upper Texas coast, an industrial port city about 11 miles from Galveston and roughly 36 miles southeast of Houston. Flat and low, its waterfront is lined with deepwater docks, refineries, and petrochemical plants, a heavy concentration of industry along the Gulf. The city is also marked in local memory by a catastrophic 1947 dock explosion that reshaped how hazardous cargo is handled.
