Dickinson is a city in Galveston County on the Upper Gulf Coast, situated along Dickinson Bayou about 18 miles northwest of Galveston and roughly 28 miles southeast of Houston. It sits in the low, flat coastal plain between the two cities, laced with bayous and wetlands that drain toward Galveston Bay. Its low elevation and bayou setting have made it prone to flooding during major storms, including severe inundation from Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
