Pyote, Texas

Pyote is a small town in Ward County, out on the flat, arid plains of the Permian Basin about 49 miles southwest of Odessa. During World War II it was the site of the Pyote Army Air Field, a sprawling B-17 and B-29 training base nicknamed the Rattlesnake Bomber Base for the dens uncovered during its construction; after the war the field served as a storage depot for surplus bombers. Remnants of the old airfield and its history endure at the site today.
