Progreso Lakes is a small city in Hidalgo County, in the Rio Grande Valley about 18 miles east of McAllen and just south of Progreso. It lies close to the Rio Grande near the international border, in the flat delta country of deep South Texas. The community sits amid small lakes and resacas in the surrounding low-lying farmland.
