In Jefferson County about 11 miles from Beaumont, Nederland is a city in the Golden Triangle region of the upper Gulf Coast, on the flat coastal plain near the Neches River and the refineries of the Port Arthur area. It grew as a rail-line town in the region's rice-farming and oil-refining country and retains a documented Dutch heritage, reflected in a windmill museum in the town.
