Malakoff is a city in Henderson County in East Texas, about 44 miles southwest of Tyler and near the western shore of Cedar Creek Reservoir. The area was historically tied to lignite coal and clay mining, and the surrounding country lies where the prairie gives way to the wooded eastern part of the state. The nearby lake supports fishing and lakeside recreation.
