Los Fresnos, Texas

Los Fresnos is a city in Cameron County, in the lower Rio Grande Valley about 12 miles north of Brownsville. Its name is Spanish for "the ash trees," a reference to the ash that once grew abundantly in the area, and the town sits amid the irrigated fields and citrus groves that define Valley agriculture, with crops such as cotton, sugarcane, and grapefruit. It lies along the route toward the beaches of South Padre Island on the Gulf coast.
