In Fannin County, north of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Leonard is a small city about 27 miles northeast of McKinney. It sits in the Blackland Prairie of North Texas, a region of dark, fertile soils historically worked as cotton and grain farmland. The town retains the character of a small agricultural community on the rural edge of the expanding metroplex.
