Hitchcock is a city in Galveston County, on the mainland of the Upper Gulf Coast about 12 miles west of Galveston. It sits in the flat, marshy coastal lowlands near the bays and bayous that feed into Galveston Bay, an area shaped by its proximity to the water and the wetlands of the coastal prairie, with an early history as a farming and produce-shipping community.
