Jamaica Beach is a small residential community on the western half of Galveston Island, about 13 miles west of the city of Galveston along the Upper Gulf Coast. The town occupies a narrow stretch of barrier-island land between the Gulf of Mexico and West Bay, with canals, beachfront, and low coastal terrain shaping its layout. It functions largely as a beach and vacation community set among the dunes and tidal flats of the island.
