Gunter is a city in Grayson County in North Texas, about 18 miles north of Frisco along the northern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The terrain is gently rolling blackland prairie and farm country, historically used for cotton, grain, and cattle. In recent years it has felt the outward growth of the metroplex as suburban development pushes north toward the Red River.
