Groveton is a small city in Trinity County, in the Piney Woods of East Texas, about 65 miles northeast of The Woodlands. The surrounding country is heavily forested with pine and hardwood, and the town sits near the Davy Crockett National Forest and the drainage of the Trinity and Neches rivers. Timber and the lumber industry have long shaped the local economy, along with cattle ranching in the clearings between the woods.
