Dimmitt is a city in Castro County on the flat, high tableland of the Llano Estacado in the Panhandle, about 54 miles southwest of Amarillo. The surrounding plains are given over to large-scale irrigated agriculture, with grain crops, cotton, and cattle feeding operations spread across the level farmland. It functions as a trade and service center for this intensively farmed corner of the High Plains.
