Blackwell is a small community in Nolan County in West Texas, situated about 43 miles southwest of Abilene and a similar distance north of San Angelo. The country here is gently rolling rangeland at the western edge of the Rolling Plains, where ranching and farming predominate and wind turbines rise across the surrounding ridges. Oak Creek Reservoir lies nearby, providing water and recreation in an otherwise dry landscape.
