One office in Rio Grande City handles permits, addresses, and weedy lots

Inside Rio Grande City, call Planning and Code Enforcement before you build, remodel, open a business, or ask for a 911 address. The office handles city permits for work such as wiring, plumbing, roofing, and signs.

Land just outside the city needs a boundary check. Ask if the tract is in the current ETJ and whether the city or county reviews a land split. An old five-mile claim or a city mailing address does not prove the city issues the permit.

The department also handles weeds, junked cars, dumping, and sewage complaints inside the city. That job is separate from finding the right office for land beyond the city line.
