In Roma, even a big shed or an attached carport needs a permit
Roma lists permits for storage sheds over 200 square feet. A porch, awning, or carport may need one at 200 square feet or more, when attached to the home, or when it sits within five feet of the house. Garage conversions, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, mobile homes, some walls, and work on a city sidewalk can also need review.
Businesses can have extra steps. A food-handling place needs a city Health Department permit. A commercial building permit also needs Fire Marshal sign-off.
Completed applications and payment go to City Hall at 201 W. Convent Blvd. Give Development Services the size, attachment, and distance from the house before starting; those details decide which rule fits.
