Commercial and multifamily projects also need Fire Marshal review
Outside city limits, a development permit may be only part of the job. A commercial building, public-access building, or multifamily project with four or more units also needs a Fire Marshal construction permit.
The order matters. The Fire Marshal will not open the application until the site has a current development permit and a 911 address. After that, plan review can take up to 10 working days. Drawings, a design professional, and contractor details are part of the packet.
A small shop, event venue, church, school, or apartment project may need both land review and fire-code review. Getting both offices lined up early keeps one permit from waiting on the other.
