Skip the Safety Sticker, But Johnson County Still Needs an Emissions Test
Since January 1, 2025, most Texas passenger cars and trucks no longer need a safety inspection for registration. Johnson County still has an emissions test because it is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth emissions program.
That means a certified station is still part of renewing tags here. The shop runs the emissions check, and the result should flow into the vehicle record. If the state cannot see it, bring the paper Vehicle Inspection Report to the counter.
Timing causes the headache. A lapsed test, or one that never tied to the record, can block renewal. Run the emissions test a few weeks before the sticker expires.
