Filing a DBA or Assumed Name in Tarrant County

If a Tarrant County sole proprietor wants to use a business name other than their own, that DBA goes to the County Clerk. An unincorporated business can file the assumed-name certificate in person or mail a notarized form.

Two details save headaches. Search county assumed-name records first, and remember that a DBA is not a business license. It only records the name.

City rules, permits, tax accounts, and state filings can still apply. LLCs and corporations also have assumed-name rules with the Texas Secretary of State.
