Sanford, Texas

Sanford is a town in Hutchinson County on the flat, treeless High Plains of the Texas Panhandle, about 38 miles northeast of Amarillo. It sits just below Sanford Dam, which impounds the Canadian River to form Lake Meredith, and the surrounding national recreation area draws boaters and anglers to the canyons and shoreline north of town. The reservoir is a major water source for cities across the region, and the town grew up in a landscape shaped by ranching and the Panhandle's oil and gas fields.
