Borger, Texas

Borger is a city in Hutchinson County, in the Texas Panhandle about 39 miles northeast of Amarillo, set on the flat High Plains near the Canadian River. It grew up rapidly as an oil boomtown in the 1920s and remains a center of petroleum and petrochemical industry, home to a large refinery and carbon-black and chemical plants that dominate the local economy. The surrounding country is open grassland and ranchland typical of the northern Panhandle.
