Rotan, Texas

Rotan is a small city in Fisher County, on the rolling plains of West Texas about 52 miles northwest of Abilene. The town grew up around railroad and agricultural trade, and its economy has long been tied to cotton and other farming, oil production, and a large gypsum plant that processes deposits found in the surrounding land. Like much of rural West Texas, it reached its peak population in the mid-twentieth century and has grown quieter since.
