Raymondville lies in the flat farmland of Willacy County in the Rio Grande Valley, about 33 miles northeast of McAllen and roughly 94 miles southwest of Corpus Christi. The town grew as a shipping and trade center for the surrounding irrigated cropland, and the area has long been known for onions, cotton, grain sorghum, and Valley citrus. It sits on the coastal plain of deep South Texas, near the northern edge of the Rio Grande Valley's agricultural belt.
