Peñitas is a city in Hidalgo County, in the Rio Grande Valley near the border, about 13 miles west of McAllen. It lies on the flat, irrigated delta plain of the lower Rio Grande, in an area of citrus groves and vegetable farming that stretches across the western Valley.
