Palestine, Texas

Palestine is the seat of Anderson County, set in the pine and hardwood country of the East Texas Piney Woods about 46 miles southwest of Tyler. A railroad town from the 1870s, it retains a large stock of historic buildings and serves as the western terminus of the Texas State Railroad, a heritage line whose steam and diesel excursions run through the forest between Palestine and Rusk. The city is also known for its spring dogwood blooms, celebrated each year along the wooded trails around town.
