In the Piney Woods of East Texas, Oakwood is a small town in Leon County surrounded by timberland and open ranch country. It lies about 62 miles southwest of Tyler and roughly 72 miles northeast of College Station, in a region of forest, pasture, and small farms. The town sits near the wooded valley of the Trinity River.
