Niederwald, Texas
Niederwald is a small city in Hays County, on the eastern edge of the Central Texas Hill Country about 12 miles east of San Marcos. It was settled by German pioneers, and its name is German for "low forest," describing the wooded, brushy country along the old road between Austin and San Antonio where the community grew up.
