Katy is a fast-growing suburban city on the flat coastal prairie west of Houston, straddling Fort Bend, Harris, and Waller counties along the Interstate 10 corridor about 28 miles west of downtown Houston. Long a rice-farming and railroad community on the plains that stretch west from the city, it has become one of the major bedroom suburbs of metropolitan Houston, anchored by a large school district and extensive master-planned residential development.
