Hooks, Texas

Hooks is a city in eastern Bowie County, in the Piney Woods of far northeastern Texas about 72 miles northeast of Longview and a short distance west of Texarkana. The town grew sharply during World War II, when the Red River Army Depot and the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant were built just to the south, and both installations have remained a defining presence in the area. The surrounding country is wooded and rolling, near the Red River that gives the region its name.
