Hideaway is a small city in Smith County in the East Texas Piney Woods, about 14 miles west of Tyler. It began as a gated lake-and-golf development and remains a largely residential community built around its lakes and wooded terrain, set among the rolling pine and hardwood forests characteristic of the region.
