Mineola, Texas

Mineola lies in Wood County, in the Piney Woods of East Texas about 23 miles northwest of Tyler. The city grew up as a railroad junction in the 1870s, and its history is bound to the timber and rail trade that shaped much of the region; its downtown retains a historic commercial district, and Mineola is a stop on Amtrak's Texas Eagle line. Just outside town, the Mineola Nature Preserve spreads across thousands of acres along the Sabine River, drawing birders and hikers to its wetlands and trails.
