Groom, Texas

Groom is a small town on the flat, wide-open High Plains of Carson County in the Texas Panhandle, about 43 miles east of Amarillo along Interstate 40 and old Route 66. It is best known for the enormous white cross that rises beside the highway, one of the largest cross monuments in the hemisphere, visible for miles across the surrounding wheat and grassland. The town grew up as a railroad and ranching stop and later became a familiar marker for travelers crossing the Panhandle on Route 66.
