Grey Forest, Texas

Grey Forest is a very small city tucked into the wooded, hilly country of northwestern Bexar County, along Scenic Loop Road roughly 17 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio and near Helotes. It began in the 1920s as a retreat called the Scenic Loop Playground, where San Antonio residents built summer homes among the oaks and creeks at the edge of the Hill Country. Helotes and Lee creeks run through the town, and its heavy tree cover and quiet residential character still reflect those early cottage-getaway origins.
