Cleveland is a city in Liberty County, on the wooded northeastern edge of the Houston region about 43 miles from downtown Houston. It sits in the Piney Woods of East Texas, and the timber and lumber trade long shaped its economy. The surrounding pine forest and the nearby Sam Houston National Forest give the area its landscape of dense woodland and small clearings.
