Clarksville, Texas

Clarksville is the seat of Red River County, set in the northern reaches of the Piney Woods in far Northeast Texas, roughly 98 miles northeast of McKinney and near the Red River. One of the oldest towns in this corner of the state, it served as a major trading center in the decades before the Civil War, when goods arrived by steamboat up the Red River, and it later grew as a stop on the Texas and Pacific Railway. It is known regionally as a "Gateway to Texas" for the early settlers who entered the state through the area.
