Alto, Texas

In the pine and hardwood forest of the East Texas Piney Woods, Alto is a small town in Cherokee County about 50 miles southeast of Tyler. The surrounding country is timberland and rolling farmland typical of the region. Near the town lie the Caddo Mounds, earthen mounds built by the Caddo people that stand among the region's most significant ancient ceremonial sites.
