TAMIU's Back Brush Is a Birding Stop

TPWD lists the Texas A&M International University campus near Loop 20 as a day-use stop on the Laredo Loop. The draw is not the buildings. It is the large tract of undeveloped brush behind the university.

TPWD points birders toward sparrows, quail, thrashers, Cactus Wren, and Black-throated Sparrow. A dirt road, small pond, and brush edge can also bring deer, javelina, and migrant birds. The edge of a city campus is still South Texas thornscrub here.

Use TPWD's Laredo Loop page for directions and the day-use note, and respect campus gates and rules.
