New Travis County residents handle vehicles at the tax office
A new Travis County resident with an out-of-state car needs four things lined up. Bring proof of ownership, proof of Texas liability insurance, a passed inspection, and Form 130-U.
The order matters. Travis County is in the Austin-area emissions program. The vehicle needs a passing emissions test at a certified station before the tax office can issue the registration.
Tax Office lines can close early when a branch fills up. A mid-morning weekday is usually a better bet than arriving near closing time.
