Starr County's deed books run back to 1848, the year the county was born

Starr County was organized in 1848, and the County Clerk's deed and deed-of-trust index reaches back to that year. The old bound books run through 1984. In a county with Spanish and Mexican land-grant roots, that long chain can matter.

Newer records are in the online Starr County Official Records Search. You can look for deeds, liens, and plats by name or instrument. New documents can also be filed electronically through approved e-recording providers.

A records search shows what is filed. It is not a title opinion. For an old boundary, lien, mineral reservation, or sale question, bring in a title company or real estate attorney.
