Where Your Coryell County DBA Actually Gets Filed

Use the county clerk lane if the business is not a formed company. That lane covers sole proprietors, sole practitioners, general partnerships, joint ventures, estates, nonprofits, and trusts.

House Bill 3609 changed the company side on September 1, 2019. Corporations, LLCs, limited partnerships, limited liability partnerships, and foreign filing entities do not record DBAs with the county. Their assumed names go to the Texas Secretary of State.

So start with your business type. If it is just you under a trade name, the courthouse is likely the right counter. If it is an LLC, the state is the right lane.
