Register a Sole-Proprietor DBA Through the County Clerk
A business name in El Paso County depends on the business type. The County Clerk records assumed names, often called DBAs, for businesses that are not formed with the state. That includes sole proprietors and general partnerships.
Corporations, LLCs, limited partnerships, and similar filing entities handle assumed names with the Texas Secretary of State instead. The state filing does not also have to be filed with the county clerk.
For a county filing, the Recording Division expects the right form, the owners, and government ID. A DBA is only a name record, so tax, food, city, or alcohol permits may still be separate.
